Hello, I am searching for any records for the Redmond brothers (Catholic) who emigrated (probably to Canada, records give their entrace to the US as by land) and settled in Whitneyville/Machias, Maine, USA. The earliest clear record I have is the 1860 US Census. The brothers are: John, Patrick, Miles and Martin. Their birthdates vary from record to record with Patrick and John alternately listed as the oldest and born @ 1810 to 1818. (John is confusingly listed as born in Mayo in 1 record.) Martin is always listed as youngest and born @1830. All but Martin were farmers and had adjoining plots of land.
Patrick Redmond became a naturalized US citizen October 14, 1858 in Machias, Maine.
Death Certificates give their parents as Lawrence Redmond b. 1797 Wexford and Catherine Daly 1783-1872. Most Whitneyville records were destroyed in a fire at the turn of the century, so State and Census records are pretty much all I can find.
I found Laurence Redmond in the Tithe Applotment books in Monamolin, Wexford (undated but nearby sites list @ 1833).
There are enough Miles and Martin Redmond s listed nearby, that I think this is a good match.
I would like to confirm the Irish location they came from and contact any relatives (US or Irish or Canadian) to share family histories.

Mary Lou:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
RC parish records for Monamolin parish start in 1834 for marriages and 1839 for baptisms. Here is a link to the register. Possibly one of the Redmonds married before leaving Ireland.

You may also want to look at the parish records for Litter RC parish which go back to the late 1700s. A reference book I have indicates that Monamolin civil parish corresponds to both Monamolin RC parish and Litter parish.

Note: neither of these parishes are on Roots Ireland.
The 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing does show two Lawrence Redmonds in the parish. Possibly one of the two is the father. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/wexford/monamolin.htm

Mary Lou, I wanted so much to find your four brother ancestors were part of my extended group, but alas. My GGGF Andrew Redmond (b1789) was from Garrydaniel, spitting distance to Monamolin. I suspect they went the St. Moling's RC Church. There was a large contingent of people, including my ancestor, who left the area and settled in Frampton, Quebec. My guy emigrated ~1825, but the emigration timeframe for others was probably 1810-1830. Many of the townspeople scattered further to Maine (as mine did, en route to Massachusetts)--so they would have been in comfortable company, and to Wisconsin and California. I did not find your ancestors' names but you might want to check the "Frampton tree" among Ancestry.com public member trees. For a sense of the area and the times, you might want to read www.FramptonIrish.com.
