Looking for information on Matthew Punch a ship builder and his wife Mary Greenway married early 1800's (son John Greenway Punch born 1828). They had sons, John Greenway Punch married Mary Hinchy (HInchey) daughter of Patrick Hinchey and Hester Murphy of Dublin, Patrick, James, Joseph, Thomas and daughers Margaret and Maria. John, Patrick and James at least were Ships Captains, I'm not sure about Joseph and Thomas. John and Patrick settled in Australia and I think James went to New Zealand. I believe Margaret and Maria stayed in Ireland but can't be sure.
Any information on Matthew and Mary Punch and their families.
My ggg grandfather, Matthew, gg grandfather John, g grandfather William, grandfather John and Father Donald.

Hi Sharon,
Thanks again for your message.
Have you tried looking in church records for information on the family?
Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where it gives an overview of what copies of records are available. Ballynure civil parish is part of Ballyclare Catholic parish. To see is available from Ballyclare parish follow this link:
As you can see records for the area do not begin until c. 1869. However the originals in local custody may begin earlier. It may be an idea to write to the local parish priest for some possible assistance.
If the family followed the Church of Ireland you can find information on these records here:
http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
There are also some online sites that give access to some church records:
www.familysearch.org and www.rootsireland.ie (please note that you have to pay to use Roots Ireland)
You could also check for record of the family in the land acts pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864. If Margaret and Maria remained in Ireland you should be able to find their marriage or death certificates if these events occurred after this date.
These records are available from he General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records online here: https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
For more information check: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-civil-registration.html
The latest records that are available online are the 1901/1911 census records. You could check these to see if any family remained in the area at the time: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Some other websites that you may find helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/antrim/index.html
I hope that this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
