I am looking for my Great Great Grandfather David Egan.  He married Elizabeth Donahou in April 4, 1842 in New Ross Wexford County Ireland.

They came to America and settled first in Vermont and then in Eagle, New York.

Any information would be appreciated

  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query. Have you tried finding the marriage record for David and Elizabeth? If you are having trouble finding Elizabeth's surname, try searching using a different spelling. Donahou could be 'Donohoe' or Donoghue' for example. You should know that the General Register Office (GRO) marriage certificates start from 1845, so just after this particular marriage. It might be worth contacting the local parish priest in New Ross who might be able to point you in the right direction. Should you find the record, you will find other clues about your GGG Grandfather David Egan. In the meantime, keep checking our website. Hopefully, the community in New Ross will be able to offer more information in time.

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney

I have been searching my gg grandfather's family and found the following in Ancestry.com. I think they left Ireland in 1842 as their first son was born in Montpelier, Vermont in 1843.

I am looking for information on David and Elizabeth in Ireland. His tombstone reads " a native son of Wexford County.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated

    Thank you.
