Thomas McPhillips in Ematris Parish probably lived in Dyan. Married Margaret Sullivan, who probably lived in Glenn. Son, Thomas was born in Monaghan on 6 Jan 1834. The McPhillips came to America in 1856. Margaret died on the journey across the ocean.
Townlands listed for Thomas under the Griffith's Valuation were; Latnamard, Dyan and Sheskin. Senior Family was very specific that Thomas came from Monaghan.
Catherine Lynch was born about 1840 in Monaghan, Ireland. Her Mother was Margaret McCabe. Father was either Michael or Martin. They were married in Co. Monaghan. The Lynches came to America in 1846. Thomas McPhillips and Catherine Lynch married in mineral Point, Iowa county, Wisconsin. Any information will be appreciated. Dona

Hi there,
You have quite a selection of parish names there! Trying to find the correct parish is a more difficult task. You could perhaps, try writing to the parish priests for these areas. This might help you to narrow it down. You should give as much information as you can, in order to help find the correct Thomas. It is possible that Thomas had other relatives named Thomas who are also listed in Griffith's Valuation.
Hopefully someone in the local communites in County Monaghan will recognise the names and be able to help you further.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
Kind regards,

There are a number of McPhillips still in the Aghabog area. Latnamard is the area around where the Church, school and post office is based. I would suggest perphaps issuing your request on the Carn Latnamard Community Facebook page, some local may be able to help you and there are some photos of the area on it.

Good luck with your search.

Thank you for the quick response.
I really need to know when the Griffiths was done for Sheskin, Tedavnet and also for Dyan, Ematris to further weed out which Thomas may be mine or if he was gone from the area when the Griffiths was done. I think I have identified a possible descendant of the Latnamard Thomas since I possibly located his grave in St Mary's churchyard died 1877 along with his two brothers who were also listed in the Griffths. Michael and Francis. If 1858 is when the Griffiths was done in Latnamard my Thomas was already in America for two yrs. Dona McPhillips
