I am insterested in finding additonal information for the Timothy Mulvihill and Johanna Connor family.  I know of eight children, but there could be more.

Timothy Mulvihill died in Kansas City Missouri 22 Feb 1872.  From the 1870 census he said that he was 89 years old. All eight of his children lived in Kansas City at one time.

I found the baptismal records for five of the children.

Thomas Mulvihill born 1820 married Margaret Morrissy

Catherine Mulvihill born 1823 married Michael McMahon

John Mulvihill born 1825 married Catharine Sheehan

Bridget Mulvihill born 1830 married William Moore -after he died she married Timothy Scanlon Jan 1870 in Kansas City

Johnanna Mulvihill born 1833 married Patrick O'Reilly Oct 1859 in Kansas City

Timothy Mulvihll born 1836 married Anna McCarroll

Michael Mulvihill born 1840 married Ellenn Clifford May 1870 in St. Joseph MO

Ann Mulvihill married John Madden Oct 1864 in Kansas City

  • Hi there,

You seem to have already found baptisal records for the Mulvihills. There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Moyvane (Murher), but these only date from 1855 for baptismal and marriage records.

Civil registration records are available from the General Register Office (GRO). These start from 1864 however. You can access the website here: http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at. Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38). Microfilm copies of the books for all of Ireland are available at the National Archives of Ireland (NAI) http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/tithe-applotment-books-and-the-primary-griffith-valuation/ or the Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS).

Have you tried checking the Ellis Island records (www.ellisisland.org) or the Castle Garden records (www.castlegarden.org)? Generally, more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at, this could be a good place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.

Have you checked the baptismal and marriage records of Timothy's children? Did they give you any additonal information?

There is a book by Michael O'Connor called 'A Guide to Tracing your Kerry Ancestors' (1994).

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

  • Barbara,

The church records for Moyvane begin in about 1830. Prior to that people born in Moyvane were baptised in Listowel.

You say you have found baptismal records for five of the children. I presume you got these on the Irish Genealogy site. I had a quick look myself and found these five:

    Thomas 1820

    Catherine 1823

    Johanna 1833

    Timothy 1836

    Michael 1840

It may still be possible that the records for the other children exist. There are many errors in the Irish Genealogy site. In any case it seems that these Mulvihills were resident in Kilbaha, Moyvane before emigrating to USA.

  • Thomas - I have a will for Michael Mulvihill's grandson Clifford Balch in Kansas City.  There were 7 children named in the will with their descendants.  Thomas the oldest son was not listed, but with the 5 in Ireland and 7 in the will - I found a total of 8 children.

    Thomas - 1820,

    Catherine 1823,

    John 1825,

    Johanna 1833,

    Bridget 1834,

    Timothy 1836,

    Michael 1840,

    Ann 1844

Thomas and his family left Kansas City early (1880's)  but I have information on the rest of the family.  My husband is a descendant of John Mulvihill born in 1827.  Timothy - their father came to Kansas City and is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery with most of his children.
