Hi;
I would like to find some ties to other Nelligans from County Kerry.
The earlier information is as follows:
JOHN NELLIGAN married to BRIDGET MURPHY some time before 1803.
Their children that I know of:
BRIDGET born in Dingle, Kerry about 1803 married PATRICK DELANY. I'm not sure if it was in
Ireland or Quebec, Canada. She had 4 children before she died in 1834 in Frampton, Quebec.
JAMES born Sept. 12,1804 in Dingle, Kerry. He became a Priest in Quebec in 1830.
MAURICE THOMAS born in Dingle, Kerry about 1810. He married Margaret Duff in Frampton, Quebec in 1835.
MICHAEL married to MARY BLACK. I have information about a daughter, Bridget, that was married in Quebec.
PATRICK married to BRDGET HIERLIHY in Ireland in 1820. He was in Quebec as well later on. This one is really just a feeling as there are other Nelligans, that I already have, listed on birth records in Quebec.
I don't know where they came into Canada or exactly when.I would appreciate any help with information before they left Kerry and especially on their parents JOHN and BRIDGET.
Thank you in advance for any help youmay provide.

Cindy, My name is John Joseph Nelligan Jr from Bangor Penobscot, Maine and my ties are from Dingle County Kerry Ireland. I do not think any of my line went to Canada but it's possible. I never heard anyone in my family mentioned Nelligan's in Canada. Like everyone else I think I never asked questions and they never gave me information. My grandfaather Patrick Nelligan was born 10 Jan 1858 in Dingle and died 14 Sept 1934 in Bangor, Maine. He was married to Mary Coppinger born 13 March 1858 in Galway. She died 23 May 1934 in Bangor, Maine. My grandparents had six children all born in Bangor. I have been to Ireland four times and going again in October. I have meet many of the Nelligan in Ireland. A Charlie Neligan (yes one 'L') is a famous retired pro Rugby player. Hall of Fame. I have seen the name with one 'l' and two 'l' even in the same family. If you have information that you are willing to share about the Nelligan/Neligan in Ireland I would appreciate it and I am willing to share mine.
This is our local society : www.rootsweb.com/~mepcgs
Thank you,
John

Thank you John, Coleen and Martine for your replies.
Unfortunately, other than what I posted, I have nothing else on the family in Ireland. I also don't have any records of any of them going to Bangor, Maine. I wish I could tie them in somewhere.
Martine, I will contact the person you listed to see if he has anything to add.

Hi Cindy
Sounds like we are. There's also this info....Edward (possibly, Edmond?) Gurry born 1789 in Dublin region, County Meath, Parish of Laracor. Died in Quebec around 1876.
He married Bridget Began, born in County Meath 1791.
They had Peter Gurry, born in Quebec in 1832. He died in 1913.
Peter Gurry married Margaret McDonald, born in Quebec in 1831.
And, they had a son....... Michael Gurrie (change in spelling of last name). He was my grandfather. Married Mary Nelligan.
Also, here's a link to Peter Gurry's Will. Go to ....www.pbalk.com.com/valcartier/Will/GurryPeter.htm
Still looking for info on the Irish side of the family tree, as we are traveling to Ireland in early May, and want to track down relatives.
Anyway, hope this info helps.
