Hi I am trying to trace my GG grandfather's family who came from Ennis.  He was married to Ann O'Gorman from Co. Limerick and together with his sister Ellen and a baby daughter arrived in Port Adelaide in South Australia on the ship Birman in December 1840. Nothing is known of his Irish ancestry.   According to records he left Ireland with a 2 year old son as well however he was not registered on arrival which makes me think he must have died enroute.

I have done the Y DNA test and have found I am related to Joseph A Kelly whom I met recently on a trip to the UK but we are having trouble finding the common ancestor.

Many thanks

Elaine Kelly

  • Hi Elaine,

Very interested in your message as we share the same gg grandfather!  I'm a bit rusty on my Aussie/Irish roots as it's a few years ago that I looked into it but my cousins in Adelaide have more info.   I visited Anne O'Gorman's grave in Kadina on my last visit to SA.   Would be interested in any info you have.

    best wishes,

    Jon

  • Hi Jon,

I have a public tree on ancestry.com.au  It is the Kelly family tree and my user name is ElaineKelly71. If you have a look at that you will see what I have found out so far.

Do you live in Ireland? If so which county. I have discovered a couple of "cousins" through ancestry and also a DNA relative in England who came from Ennis in Co. Clare. One of these days I am going to get to Ireland in the meantime one of these "cousins" I have found has just been to Ennis and looks as though he has found the connection for Patrick and Ann. We now have the diocese in which they were married so just looking for that. I will be seeing him in a week to two to find out all the info.

My email is lainee.k@hotmail.com if you prefer to communicate more directly.

    Cheers

    Elaine
