Hello:
Thomas Corrigan and Julia Delaney came to Canada from Ireland in 1849. Their tombstone states that they were natives of Castlecomer, County Kilkenny.
Their children are: John (c1832), Martin (1834), Agnes(1838), Michael (1841), William (1843), Elizabeth (1845), Bridget (1847). Catherine.(1849) was born during the voyage while Ellen (1851) and another John (1855) were born in Ontario, Canada.
Help, Bob Corrigan

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your message.
Do you know the name of Thomas's parents? If you do, you could check the Tithe Applotment Books for some record of the family in Castlecomer. The Tithe Applotment Books were a land survey that was carried out in Ireland between 1823 and 1838. Depending on what age Thomas was when he left for Canada, he may or may not have owned any land before he left. However, it may be more likley that his father is in it. You can do a check for both at the following link:
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
You could also check for some record of Thomas and Julia in church records:
Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may be helpful however, is the irishtimes. Here they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Castlecomer parish, follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records you can check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/
Also, Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland records are currently being uploaded to www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html free of charge. However, this is an ongoing project so not all records are available yet.
Do you know much about their emigration? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure, so this may be a place to find information. A good place to start researching immigration in Canada is the Natioanl Library and Archives at the following address:

Some other websitse which may help you are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Family Search: https://familysearch.org/
I hoe that this helps you Bob. If you have anymore information, please post it. The The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,
