I am trying to trace my family history in Kanturk Co Cork, My great grandfather Jeremiah Lehane was born there in aprrox 1860 and my Great Grandmother Cathrine Sheehane was born in approx 1866. They left Kanturk some time before 1892 and came to Australia and married in April 1892. Jeremiah's parents are listed at Timothy Lehane, farmer and his mother is Mary Shehane.
Cathrine's parents are listed as being Patrick Sheehan and Johanna Callahan also from Kanturk

Hi Sue,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in Church records for information? Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may be helpful is the irishtimes where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Kanturk Roman Catholic parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check: http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.
You could check in the land records also. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
You could also check the 1901 and 1911 census records for anyone that may have remained in Ireland. You can search these online here:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Some other websites which you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Family Search: https://familysearch.org/
