Hi
I am seeking information on John Heeney born in Killiney, Dublin Co. and married Mary frayne. His son, John, known as Jack, was born c1826 in Killney. He married Lucy Quigley in 1851. Jack went to Victoria, Australia and was an identity in the racing industry. Any information would be great!
Cheers
John

Hi John,
Thank you for your message.
There are a number of places you may be able to find information:
Church records:
Most Catholic records are held locally. You could use the Irish Times website to see what records are available in the parish. Killiney is part of the Roman Catholic parish of Ballybrack. Here is the link:
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
Family Search also has a huge database of genealogical records online including marriage and birth records from pre-1871. Here is the link: www.familysearch.org
Irish Genealogy has started to upload both Catholic and C of I records free of charge to www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html Not all counties are covered yet-but most of Dublin is!
Land Records:
There are two land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century:
The tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Immigration Records:
The Public Record Office of Victoria has good online databases of settlers at www.prov.vic.gov.au Otherwise, other records may be found in the Colonial Office Papers of the UK National Archives, class reference CO 201. This class contains a wide variety of records, including petitions for assisted passages, emigrants' lists, records of emigrants on board ship, petitions from settlers for financial assistance and much more.
Some other websites which you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

I hope these links are helpful. Best of luck with your research!
