Hi
I know my great-great-grandfather John Mulcare was buried in Killea - at least according to a letter I have from the late 1800s. I wonder if anyone would know if the cemetery still exists and if there are any records. I would like to come over and have a look.
I also have a lot of photographs taken in the late 1800s with no names on them - but they were taken in a studio in Limerick. I suppose one of them must be my great-great-grandfather.
Any help would be appreciated. This is a great idea!
Thanks
Hope to meet you next summer.

Hi Jackie,
Thank you very much for your message and for your kind words!
A useful website for checking what Catholic parish records are available in specific parishes is the Irish Times. To see what is available in Killea/Templemore parish follow this link:
Most Catholic records are held locally, so it may be an idea to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance- he may also be able to shed some light on whether the cemetery is still in existence.
If John died after 1864 you may be able to find his death certificate in civil records. Civil registration only became mandatory in Ireland in 1864. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records online here:

The Tipperary Library Local Studies may also be able to help you in terms of local history. Follow this link to their Local Studies Department.

It may also be an idea to get in touch with some local Tipperary sites. Here is a website that lists some good links for individual counties:

I hope that this is helpful to your research and that you are able to find some information before you visit!
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
