Update. Patrick's father was Michael Kelly, shown on Patrick's marriage registration. I researched my great grandfather, Patrick Kelly who lived with his father-in-law, John Booth at Cloonpee. The 1901 census showed him as 45 (born 1856?) I found a 1859 Caltra baptism for a Patricius Kelly whose father was Patricio Kelly and mother was Wiifrida Gaven. Could that be my great grandfather? Would they have baptised him that late, about age 3?

Hi Jill,
No, at least for Roman Catholics, if a child died without being baptized the belief was this child would never get to heaven, (would go to Limbo) so nearly all families had their babies baptized within a few days of birth. Unfortunately for you the civil registration did not start until 1864 in Ireland.

you might try this site
they seem to be adding more records.....I have been working on the Mitchell/Mannion tree for about 3 years and I keep finding more earlier records. I found a 1855 baptism for a great grand aunt several weeks ago. Its a paid site.
good luck! Kate
