O'Connor of Ballymacelligott

What exactly would you like to research.

I think I just want to get a general lie of the land.  I have looked at the www.irishgenealogy.ie site and found some of the O'Connor children on it but the parish records only seem to start in 1862 and my great grandfather's birth was before then so is not noted.  The children are noted as being born in Ash Hill and Gortlatlea which are close to Ballymacelligott

It would be very useful to know when their parents Patrick O'Connor and Catherine MCarthy got married - the date I got off the 1900 US census is quite late (1861) and they would had 3 children by that time. 

However as I said I dont expect to find a great deal as the entire family left and went to NZ and the US.  It would be very hard to prove any links to extended famiy.

Dear Irish friends

My husband, Bill and I will be traveling to Ireland on April 15th and we have two days schedued for 

Kerry.  Our hotel stated that our destination, Farmers Bridge, is 25 minutes from them.

It would be great to learn if any Shaughnessys or Loughlin are in the general area of Tralee.  Other townships 

were Lisardboula and Ballyseedy.  They are close to Farmers Bridge.

Can anyone give me some direction as to how to find out who the residents are in the areas I have mentioned ?

Also, where is the cemetery - catholic ?  I think they were affiliated with Macelligott Parish.

Checking the map Farmers Bridge is very close to Ballymac Catholic Church. There is a small graveyard attached to the church. The main burial ground would have been Tralee unless the family had a family plot elsewhere.

Tralee library would be a good place to visit, they have a resident archivest.

Anne Baldwin here from NY.  Just returned from County Kerry where I had a brief time to do a bit

of research.  I did meet two familes in Farmers Bridge that gave me info on my O'Shaughnessy line .

I tried to find the Clogher church , which , as I understand it was on the way to Castleisland.

Of course, I was in a hurry to get back to Killarney but we took the drive and had good directions.  I did not

find the Clogher church.  I have information that my Margaret Alice O'Shaughnessy was married to Denis O'Loughlin

at the Clogher Roman Catholic church on April 25, 1881.  On that same day and same church, Margarets brother

Michael O'Shaughnessy married Mary Louney and they had a son, Morris O'Shaughnessy in 1883.  Mary Louney

died in 1883 and Morris subsequently married Julia Louney, sister to Mary and they had 7 children, 5 girls and 

two boys. Michael and John O'Shaughnessy.  I found a death notice for Michael on October 6, 1974.

So, my question to you Brendan , is if I can get any information from the Clogher church records on these families. I

would be interested in Margaret Alices and Michael O'Shaughnessys parents.  I have noted that their parents

were Morris O'Shaughnessy and Margaret Glavin which may or may not be accurate.

Any guidance would be greatly welcomed.
