As you have the details of michaels birth , you will be able to go to www.groireland.ie and order a copy of his birth certificate. this will yield much information which you can use to go back further. You could always take a guess as to what year he married and try to get his marrige cert.

Looking for origins of Michael McCarthy & Eliza (Reidy),had daughters Hellen & Maria (Mary) baptised Kilcornan/Stonehall 1825. The family Mary13 Thomas12 Cath9 Ellen6 arrived in Sydney Australia Mar 1839 aboard "Aliquis", although girls baptised Roman Catholic, all listed Protestants on arrival. Michael's parents John McCarthy (labourer) wife Ellen Warn?, Eliza's Thomas Reidy & wife Ellen? Daughter Kaye & I coming to Ireland Sept 2015 would like some help, on where to go to talk to anyone. Have traced all BDM's of all the family in Australia, only one left to find here is death of Michael's wife.
