Hello,

  I have been trying to find information on my great grandfather John O'Leary who was born in either January or June 1844. I have found several John O'Leary birth records on several websites online in the Castleisland area and I am now expanding my search for him in this area.

John was about 17 when he left for the US and arrived in New York in August 1860. He then settled in Philadelphia Pa when he lived all his life. He had another relative living with his family in Philadelphia named Jeremiah O'Leary. I think they were either brothers or cousins.

The O'Leary family were Roman Catholic and I would like to find out how to locate church and cemetery records. I will be visiting Ireland in June 2013 and would like to visit where my great grandfather lived. I would appreciate any help or information that someone could provide. Thank you very much.

     Thanks for your response and suggestions on where to search. Both John and Jeremiah O'Leary married in Phila and raised their families there. I have ordered Phila marriage records from the Family Search site and hope the marriage record has more info on them. One relative thought they were from Cork, the other relative insisted they were from Kerry. I'm thinking John was from one county his wife another. If you know of a web site that might help locate the O'Leary family I would appreciate it, the search is very hard without the parents or townland name.
