Looking for information on descendants of Willliam and Jane Brereton. William was mail coach driver killed in 1822 during a rebel uprising -some information we I have gathered ...In churchyard Killarney

“Sacred to the memory of William Brereton, late of the R.H Artillery, whose mortal remains were deposited here, after he was Brutally Murdered by the Rebels on the [8th?] of January 1799 [?] near Knocknacoffell Chapel when escorting his Majesty’s Mails by day between Killarney and Millstreet through the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ alone, he looked for salvation knowing than in man there is nothing to command him to a merciful and just God. In memory of his strict fidelity and courage this stone is placed here by his employer C.D Oliver Esq. [copied by James Franklin Fuller Esq. FSA].

This information was passed on by another researcher - we do not know which cemetery. The date of death also looks to be incorrect as other newspaper cuttings of the time state 1822, 26th January.

Would be very interested in what became of his widow Jane and 4 children. One son Robert Gordon Brereton & wife Elizabeth Fitzgerald (also of tralee/father James ) emigarated to Australia in 1839.

Assistance greatly appreciated.
