My great-grandmother, Sarah O'Connor, was born c. 1849 in Old Court, Clough, Co. Laois. She was one of 7 children born to Michael O'Connor (from Coolacurragh) and Sarah Delaney (from Whitepark). I have recently been to visit Clough and was thrilled to be able to find some 2nd and 3rd cousins (Anna Bergin, Aine Whelan, Celine O'Connor, and Maureen O'Connor (widow of Lally O'Connor). Sarrah had 6 siblings, most of whom stayed in the area. However, I have only made connection with the descendants of her brothers Thomas and Matthew. But she also had 2 sisters--Mary who married Con Egan and Ann who married a Doheny. If you have any connection with these families I would love to hear from you.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message. I am delighted that you were able to connect with some cousins! I have just responded to your message on the Coolkerry parish page, please see that message for some useful websites and suggestions:

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

My Great Grandmother Mary Delaney married myGreat Grandfather James Butler in the Church at Clough in 1872, Mary's Father was Martin Delaney.
With Mary being married at Clough it is most probably her parish of birth
I aslo have references to an Emray Egan(a strange christian name) and to the Begins

It sure seems likely there is a connection somewhere along the line. My great grandmother's parents were Sarah Delaney and Michael O'Connor. He was from Coolkerry (Coolacurragh) and she was from Whitepark. They settled in Coolkerry but were evicted during the famine and moved to Old Court (which is in Clough). My g-grandmother's name was Sarah O'Connor, by the way. Born in Old Court c. 1845. Her sister (Mary or 'May')--born c. 1853--was married to Con Egan. I don't have any further details about her descendants (but would like to find info!). I also have a 2nd cousin (once removed) named Anna (O'Connor) Bergin who married Paddy Bergin. Anna is the daugher of Matthew O'Connor, son of Matthew O'Connor (brother of my Sarah O'Connor) and Kathleen Coleman.
So we've got several names intertwining.
Perhaps we can sort them all out eventually!
Cheers!

There are a group of us who have Delaney ancestors and have had Family Finder DNA tests it is possible to see where we all share the the same DNA, We all come from the same area of Laois, and are now scatted in the USA, Canda and the UK how we are all related is still a mystery but there's definatly a relationship.
I have some Delany birth and burial information I can share with you, I sent you a message with my email in it yesterday.

New Information, I found the marriage between Martin Delaney and Margaret Bergin 10-Jan-1834 the witnesses to the wedding were Pat Dooley and Margaret Bergin. Martin lived at Farren where my Grandfather, Great Uncle and Grand Aunt were born. I believe that Martin is my Great Great Grandfather and father to my Great Grandmother Mary Delaney.
Martin died 25-Oct-1894 at Farren
Margaret died 16-Mar-1880 at FarrenFarren is a couple of miles for Clogh
I have 2 other names
Christopher Delaney born 28-Dec-1834 at Farren
Patrick Delaney born 1837 and is living at Farren in 1901 and 1911.Both of the above were policemen Patrick gives his hometown as Clogh
I know you had some Bergin links
