Hello
Thanks for message and your interest in Ireland Reaching Out.
To help to find Dennis’ home place in Clare, will require a bit more detail. What other information do you have about him? Do you know much more about his emigration?, The reason why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.

The Boston Pilot; From October 1831 through October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a “Missing Friends” column with advertisements from people looking for “lost” friends and relatives who had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. This extraordinary collection of 40,743 records is available here as a searchable online database, which contains a text record for each ad that appeared in the Pilot. http://infowanted.bc.edu/
There is an Ireland Reaching Out page for general postings regarding the county Clare, perhaps you can post your message there to see if your information clicks with another users research.

You could try checking for McNamaras and O’Donnells in the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp or the later Griffith's Valuation (1848-64) http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation
The Tithe Applotment List might be of use to you, or at least interesting for you. These lists constitute the only nationwide survey for the period, and are valuable because the heaviest burden of the tithes to the Established Church, the Church of Ireland, fell on the poorest, for whom few other records survive. The information in the Tithes is quite basic, typically consisting of townland name, landholder's name, area of land and tithes payable. Many Books also record the landlord's name and an assessment of the economic productivity of the land. The tax payable was based on the average price of wheat and oats over the seven years up to 1823, and was levied at a different rate depending on the quality of land. For Parishes where the registers do not begin until after 1850, this information can be useful, as they are often the only surviving early records. They can provide valuable circumstantial evidence, especially where a holding passed from father to son in the period between the Tithe survey and Griffith's Valuation.
The Clare County Library is a great resource for Clare Genealogy and family history, and well worth investigating.

Dennis McNamara was born in 30 Jul 1820 in Clare somewhere. His Parents were John McNamara & Susan O'Donnell. His 1st wife was Catherine Sammon who was born around 1827 and died 12 Jan 1869 in Rocky Hill, Ct I can find not information on when they arrived in the US. It seems that most information I see on arrives for that time period is just a name. His 1st child was born in the USA in the early 1850's
Thier Children were
John J McNamara b. 1854 d 1917
Mary b. 1856
Susan b. 1858
Thomas b. 1860
Dennis b. 1864 d.1943
Edward b. 1867 d. 1932
The person that brought me to this line was thier 1st child John J McNamara (his 1st wife was Ellen Fitzgibbon). He ended up marrying Mary McNamara(b.1871) who was the daughter of John McNamara & Bridget Clune. On their marriage reg it stated John McNamara was living in Kiladerry/Broadford. Bridget Clune was living in Tryedagh. After they were married John McNamara moved up the the Clune homestead in Tyredagh. I have them in 1901 Census in 1901. John McNamara died in 1923 In Affick. Some of their children went to Knockjames school.
Mary McNamara was John & Bridget's 1st child and I think she was the 1st to go to the US (1889). How did Mary know John J McNamara and end up marrying him??
I have no birth information on John McNamara (Bridget's Husband). His Father's name was Michael. Maybe Denis McNamara was Michael's Brother??
I was in Tulla in August filming a segemnt for Homeward bound but main focus was on Moroney, Clune lines.
I am stuck on John McNamara
Thanks,
Blake
