Hello. I am researching my ancestors in Fethard, Wexford who were C of I. Robert Cooke, b. 1851, and his father, Charles Cooke, possible birth 1810. Robert's marriage certificate lists his father as a farmer but I believe that was later in life as I have discovered information that he was most likely a sailor in the Merchant Navy prior to Robert's birth. I am at a loss now as I was unable to to locate anything at the RCB in Dublin when I visited this year and was told that the records from Fethard were lost. I would really like to find out who were Charles parents and his wife (Robert's mother) and if the family hailed from this area before Charles. I have located information leading me to believe that Robert had siblings, possibly Samuel and George who seem to have been farmers, and maybe more in the Fethard area (all according to Griffiths Valuations). I cannot find anything connecting them with Robert without definitive birth or marriage certificates and am hoping there is something or someone in Fethard who may be able to help. My online research has been very extensive over many years but have found nothing to get me beyond this point. My first and only trip to Ireland was fantastic but I wish there had been more time to spend in Fethard.
Regards,
Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone in the area or someone who has information on this family is able to help you.
Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,

Hi, Kathleen, we are obviously related!
My great grandparents Robert Cooke and Mary Rowan were married in Drumcannon Tramore 4 July 1878.
Robert Cooke died in 1909 and as far as I know Mary took all the children to USA except for Charlotte Jane who had married Richard Rowan (my grandparents).
Robert was in the RIC however I have very little record of his service except by the time he was 50 he was a pensioner.
I know nothing about Charles Cooke his father a farmer from Tramore Waterford.
