SLATTERY---BRICK WALL

If you look at the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killokennedy civil parish, there are six Slatterys listed. Five of the six are in Cloongaheen West townland.

If you go further back to 1825, there were at least five Slatterys ( Edmond, Patrick, Thomas, Timothy and Michael), in the townland which was spelled Cloungaheen.

Not sure how the 1825 group relate to each other or the 1855 group but I think the proliferation of Slatterys in the townland explains what you found in 1901 and 1911.

www.familysearch.org is a good location to search for birth, marriage and death index records after 1911. Finally, The Mormon church has two films with church records from Killkennedy parish area. The first film is more likely to have the records on the Slattery. You order the film online and have it sent to a local Family History Center where you can view the film for 30 days. Hi Roger,

Again, thanks so much for your help. I DID send away for the LDS parish registers and spent 3 hours there yesterday searching through them. They had exactly what I was looking for....except....they had my great grandfather listed as Patt Slattery...born to John and Anne Carey Slattery....in 1858 ( as expected) and in exactly the right church etc. Now, thinking about the Irish naming pattern, I should have been looking at a Patrick Slattery as his grandfather as my Patt was the first born son of John & Mary. This Patrick would have been born about 1800 or so. He was most probably dead by the 1901 census. Any idea where I should look now?

I would go back to the Clare Library and see what they can suggest. They have all the Clare birth records where they exist. Good luck! Glad you had success.
