I am searching for information on the Conheady family. James Conheady married Ellen Tuohy late 1830's and one daughter Mary was born 1842. Mary is my great grandmother.
I am hoping to find birth/baptism details on James Conheady, Ellen Tuohy and Mary Conheady. Thank you in anticipation,
Bernadettte Mithen

Bernadette:
Not sure when your family emigrated to Australia. I looked at the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Clare and the only Conheady records were in Tulla parish. I assume that that is the parish for your family and possibly the James listed is your James.
Conheady James Milltown Tulla Clare
Conheady John Ballyslattery or Newgrove Tulla Clare
Conheady John Milltown Tulla Clare
Conheady Michael Milltown Tulla Clare
Conheady Patrick Milltown Tulla Clare
Conheady Thomas Cloonteen Tulla Clare
Conheady Thomas Lissofin Tulla Clare
Conheady Thomas Moymore Tulla ClareThe Mormon Church has microfilmed records back to 1819 for the Catholic church in Tulla. You can go to www.familysearch.org and order the film online and have it sent to a Family History Center hopefully near you.

You should also look at the Clare library web site http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm
You should also check www.nationalarchives.ie for the 1901 and 1911. There were a number of Conheadys near Tulla.

Thank you so much for this information.
As far as I know, it was only Mary Conheady who migrated to Australia late 1850's and the information I have is that she came from Clare. No further details, so this could well be her family.
I will now check the links you have suggested.

Hello Jane,
Thank you for your kind offer to have a look at the parish register for information on the Conheady family. I would like to find Mary Conheady's birth record and if possible the marriage of her parents James Conheady and Ellen Tuohy. Family story has it that James and Ellen lived at some time in 'Carran Quin', Ennis, County Clare. Not sure of the accuracy of oral history tho'.
Thanks again,

Hello Jane,
Since posting the above reply, I have discovered that Mary Conheady had a brother, Jeremiah, who also came to Australia. It has also been noted in some family history dated (1978) I now have, that the Conheady home still stands and at that time (1978) was occupied by present members of the Conheady family.
I thought these extra details might help piece things together!!!
Thanks again,
Regards,
Bernadette

Dear Bernadette:
I am getting back to you with some information.
Here goes:
James Conheady and Ellen Tuohy had the following children:
1. Mary ?/8/1842
2. Ellen ?/2/1845
3. John 6/9/1847
4. Thomas 8/12/1849
5. James 20/1/1851
6. Michael 11/5/1853
7. Anne 19/8/1854
8. Michael 11/5/1853
9. Thomas 18/10/1858
10. Martin 18/10/1858
11. Patrick 17/3/1860
12. Margaret 15/6/1862
13. Martin 31/7/1864
14. Susan 29/10/1866
15. Jeremiah 13/4/1868.
You will note that there are several Thomas', Michaels' and Martins'. This could be due to the death of the previous named child.
There is no record of a marriage in Tulla. It is probably that they were married in Ellen Tuohy's home parish which was not Tulla. I will check in other registers for you.
If you are interested, Bernadette, the Conheadys still live here locally and I can pass on your email to them, or alternatively give you their email. Please let me know through our email here at xo: tulla@irelandxo.com.
The very best of luck to you with your family research and please be sure to join the Tulla page.
Kind regards,
Jane.

Hello Jane,
Wow! What a find....................such a large family.!!! That is great news. That information will give me plenty to work on.
I would love it if you let the Conheady family know that I have been searching for family history and feel free to give them my email address bmithen@hotmail.com should they wish to make contact and help 'fill the gaps' in our research.
I have already linked in to the Tulla page. The IrelandXO site is a wonderfulway of furthering genealogy interest. Well done to all involved.
I look forward to hearing from you again.
