William Stapleton

I looked at the 1901 census and the only 14 year old Willaim Stapleton in Co. Tipperary was a farm servant working for the Lee family in Knockcurraghbola townland in Upperchurch civil parish. There was also a James Stapleton age 12 working for the Ryan family in the same townland. The only Stapleton family in the area was Patrick and Bridget Stapleton in Knockmaroe townland in the same parish. I'm fairly certain this is your family.

Roger - I'm a cousin of Trish' and she passed along the info she had already gathered. I had previously come across the info on the 14 yr old servant William Stapleton and assumed that was our grandfather. However, in the passenger list from Ireland to New York, it looks like it indicates his father's name was John Stapleton (if I'm reading it properly).

Hi Roger  it did say his father was John and i got John and his wife Margaret with James who is 2/3 years older than William at  87 stradavoher,thurles,Tipperary.William was born in Thurles, Tipperary.It could be the wrong family i have but that is the nearest.Could you recommend a site to look for John francis Stapleton  (  williams son)  thank you  trish.

Sorry for the delayed response. I just saw your note. I saw the John Stapleton record in Thurles. I assume William is still the 14 year old working on the farm.

Regarding, John Francis Stapleton, have you tried Ancestry? The World edition would be the best.

There was a record of him being brought back with his father in 1919 to ireland so his grandmother could look after him but can't find  him after that. He would have been 4 then.

I should have added that I do have access to ancestry.com and the information of John going back with his father is from his passport.  However, I haven't been able to find a marriage certificate for William Stapleton or a birth certificate for John.

Hi fmax   would there be anything on ancestry about his marriage death or children.I have not got anscestry  i tried it a couple of times but never understood it,scotlandspeople is great you just download the full certificate  bye for now cousin   trish  xx
