Hi,
I have been fortunate in tracing several generations of my Sutton ancestors in Calary through the Delgany parish records. However the trail ends in 1821 with the birth of Elizabeth, first child of my great great grandparents, Henry and Mary. This may coincide with the establishment of the Calary parish.
Eight more children were born during the next 17 years. I would like to discover where the family were living during this time. One of my great grandfather’s brothers recorded that he was born in Hickson Willows but I have not been able to locate this place.
Is it possible to access the Calary parish records for this period?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Jill:
According to Brian Mitchell's book on Parish registers, there were three Catholic churches in Calary civil parish: Bray(1800), Glendalough (1807) and Kilquade (1826). Records are available on Roots Ireland starting with the year cited. Roots is a pay site but they have a 40% off special until 10/13. You may want to register and see if you can find Elizabeth's siblings. www.rootsireland.ie

Thanks for your reply Roger,
I should have mentioned that the family belonged to the Church of Ireland. I believe that a separate Calary parish was formed in1831 which still leaves a gap of ten years.
I have looked on the Rootsireland site but still only found birth of first child.

Hi Jill The Calary parish was formed from part of three parishes around 1835 and yes the Suttons would then have become Calary parishioners. Their farm is very close to Calary church and Henry's descendants still farm the family farm there today. If you want some more info email me on crfox@wicklowcoco.ie Regards Chris

Hello Jill I am currently pursuing the same goals as you were some years ago---to learn more about Henry and Mary (nee Harris) Sutton and their children. Henry was my gg grandfather, his youngest son Francis my gg. However following much appreciated help from Roger McDonnell, it appears there may have been two Henry and Mary Suttons at about the same time, not too far form each other. I undestand my (and your?) Henry was a more humble farm worker, who gained an assisted passage to a new life in Australia, whereas the other one was a mason. Uploaded below is part of our family tree showing Henry and Mary's family, then Elizabeth's. Is that your Elizabeth? If so do you have any general infor on Henry and Mary---where they lived, what their lives were like, any photos, etc etc? Kind regards David Sutton.

Hi David,
Yes, this is my family. Francis was my great grandfather too and his daughter Bessie my grandmother. I guess Jim was your grandfather? If you would like to email me (booker@esc.net.au) I can invite you to my ancestry tree.
Regards, Jill
