Can anyone please help me find a marriage between Joseph Walsh and Kate Fox around 1902-04. I think they might have married in Westmeath or nearby area's. I found Joseph & Kate Walsh on the 1911 census living in Fennor Lower, Oldcastle Meath and both their deaths were in Oldcastle. I've been searching for their marriage but cant seem to find it.

Hi Cath,
There is no record of the marriage on www.rootsireland.ie/ which does not have records from Carlow Clare or Kerry so possibly the marriage was in 1 of these counties.

Cath,
it is almost 7 years since you posted. I assume you have solved this problem by now. I had a look at it. I feel both Joseph and Kate came from Oldcastle. Check the 1901 Census for their names. Kate may have been 15. JOWSEPH may have been 16. The Walsh family were assigned to Fennor Upper.

Hi Ron
Sorry I've only just seen your message. Thanks very much for looking. I still haven't solved my problem. I did find out that Joseph Walsh born about 1873 died 5th March 1947 and his wife Kate (nee Fox) died in 1954. Kate sister Elizabeth born 1877 married Philip Curran 22nd Feb 1903 in Oldcastle and another sister Ellen Fox is listed at the births of Elizabeth's children. On Kate's death certificate it lists her sister Elizabeth Curran as being the informer.

Cath, I'm having a little trouble with your search. I am neither Irish nor from Meath and am not an administrative reseacher on XO. I will attach a file that might help a little bit. There is information I have found that I cannot reproduce meaningfully, as I have been following up ideas now and have not had time to analyse and record everything. It is possible that Kate was this person : Fox Kate 20FemaleServantRoman Catholic ( born in ) ?? Athboy, Co MeathGeneral Servant DomesticRead and write-Single, She was living as a aservant, with a couple, who were very young and without family in Mullingar, Westmeath. However there were a couple of other possibilities. The other thing I think might be usable is the fact that, in 1911, Joseph cannot read or write, but Kate might be able to do both. I am now happy that the 15 year old are not your family. Ihave been playing around in this area recently. Fox appears to be a very well represented surname in this area, although if the information on Kate's entry above is correct, it would appear that he parents may have moved around in their lifetime. Athboy is some 20 or more kilometres from Milltown, which is very close to the Westmeath border, as is Athboy. Elizabeth Curran couls not be found in Meath or Westmeath in 1911. In Fact, there is no Phillip Curran, between 30 and 40 years old, in the whole of Ireland.

Cath, Try 3. I may have to send this without an attachment.
I have done some more. I am reasonably happy with the information I have. I will try to attach a pdf map, but three attempts with a jpeg have failed. See if you can get the pdf and I might have to sexplain it for you later.

Hi Ron
Thanks very much for the information you found. The Kate Fox you found aged 20yrs could be the Kate Fox who married Joseph Walsh. Philip Curran is on the 1901 census as single and he married in Oldcastle in 1903 to Elizabeth Fox and they both appear on the 1911 census with their 2 sons. I think Elizabeth appears as Lizzie on the 1911 census. Philip was a few years older than his wife. Thank you for the information you found.

Cath,
I'm about to create some havoc. I prepared a reply, but am realizing its inadequacies. Nevertheless, we shall proceed and add.
Cath, This will be my last contact. It is a while since I did the research, and I do not hold all relevant information at hand. It would appear that ( most likely in each case ) your Joseph Walsh and Kate Fox both came from the area of MOYLAGH ( MOYLOUGH ), a few kilometres south of Oldcastle. Many localities and terms are used, according to the set of records. In 1901, it would appear that Joseph was 31 years old and living at home in TUBRIDE ( recorded as TUBBRID in 1901). Kate’s family was living in Milltown, just south of Millbrook. Kate was not at home. I no longer like Kate, who was aged 20 and born at Athlone, who was a domestic in Mullingar, as there were two Fox families ( Cornelius and Patrick) living at Milltown, as early as 1854. A few kilometres east of Mullingar, there was another Kate Fox, who was 25 years old. However, she was not your Kate either. There is no Kate registered in Westmeath, who is likely to be your subject. Strangely, I have not been able to identify a Kate or Catherine, who might be your subject. The closest I could find was a Bridget (26) living in Oldcastle. Kate’s mother’s name was Bridget. Kate’s family appears to be living at Milltown, with Elizabeth and Ellen living at home. There were two Fox households in Milltown. If you go back far enough, there were no Fox families in Milltown. However, in 1826, there was a Henry Lynch.
I also believe there is a possibility that Kate and Joseph may have married in Mullingar. I noticed a coincidence and know, from personal experience, that the records are not perfect. These are the records I have singled out :
Coincidentally, Philip (one L) Curran married Elizabeth Fox in the very same month. ( File ADDED AT END )

Hi Col
Thank you for all the info you've emailed me. Please do not feel you are going to cause me any havoc. I think our wires have got crossed as when you messaged me to ask if I'd found the marriage of Kate (nee Fox) & Joseph Walsh and also sent me some information on them I should have said that I have a lot of information on Kate Fox and her blood family what I've found out over time. Thank you for the info you kindly sent me. Yes Kate Fox mother was indeed called Bridget (nee Halpin) who married in 1866 to John Fox.
