Looking for any information about William Presho and Mary Ann Colins
Here is what information I have:
William Presho, born about 1813
Mary Ann Colins, born about 1818
Emigrated to Canada before 1835, then came to the US through New York. Later moved to Wisconsin and then Iowa. Had several children: Ellen, William, Alexander, John, Charles, Robert (James), and Edward.
Any information would be much appreciated!

Presho is not a common name in Ireland which makes the task slightly easier.
In Griffiths Valuation for 1861, there are about 6 Presho properties listed in Co Monaghan. All were in the parish of Clones, so that?s probably the area to focus your search.

Looking at the 1901 census, there were 16 people of that name in the county. They were in just 3 townlands and all were Church of Ireland.

Fortunately Clones Church of Ireland records go back to 1682, so there?s a good chance of picking up some of the family. Clones Church of Ireland records are on the rootsireland website (pay to view). They have 13 baptism and 6 marriages listed, including a baptism for William Presho in 1812 which might be your ancestor.

There?s a record of probate being granted to Alexander Presho of Tattenbar, Monaghan in 1776, on the PRONI website. The will itself has been destroyed but I mention it in case the name should come up. In addition you?ll find details of some other Presho wills in Monaghan on this site:

Hi. I too am a descendant of William Presho and Mary Ann Collins. Last year, I saw that someone on Ancestry had posted a marriage record of William Preshy and Mary Ann Brown in 1838 in Quebec. From there, I found that Mary Ann Collins, from Ireland, married John Brown in Ottawa in 1831. She was living in Goulbourn where there are a couple Collins who owned land, having emigrated as Peter Robinson Settlers. I suspect she was a relative who came over soon after but have no evidence other than DNA matches.
I found William "Preshy" in the National Archives with his record with the Royal Artillery. He joined the 3rd Battalion in 1835 and the record says he was born in Clones, Monghan, as we'd expect for a Presho. He transferred to the 4th Battalion and went to Canada. There was a set number of enlisted men who could be married so he had to get permission and was, by the look of it, married by his commanding officers. The final record was from 1840 when he and three other "gunners and drivers" deserted from Kingston. This was, I've read, very common.
So Ellen was the child of John Brown and William C was born in Canada East in 1839. The family of four then presumably moved to New York.Monica

Hi, I believe we are connected to the Preshos too. I have Richard Presho marrying Ann Jane McClelland and having 2 children, John and Sarah Jane. Richard's parents are John Presho and Sarah Campbell. Richard died in 1896 but the other 3 Preshos (our 3 x great aunt, Ann Jane and John and Sarah) are shown on the census in both 1901 and 1911.

Helen, is that Richard Presho born in Clones in 1812? I wonder if he was a brother of William Presho who was born around 1814 according to his military record.
