My grandmother, Mary Coyle (1878 - 1955), left the townland of Roo in late 1897, emigrating to the US and she never returned to Ireland. She left behind her widowed mother Catherine Gillen Coyle (originally of Aghakista), three brothers, Joseph (d. 1914), Owen, and Patrick, and one sister, Margaret; Mary's father, Joseph Coyle died in early 1897 before she left Roo. Mary's aunt, Anne Coyle, married John Keenan, also of Roo. John Keenan and his wife Anne emigrated to Hope, RI, USA, I believe in the 1880s, but they still owned a house in Roo which they rented to a family by the name of McMahon at least till 1911 (a lot of this information comes from the 1901 and 1911 census).

I know that my grandmother Mary's brother Patrick had children (don't know his wife's name), a son Patrick and two daughters, Bridget and Cathleen, all born after 1918 in the Ballybay area where Patrick died before 1973. Many of the Coyles are buried in the Carrickatee cemetery but there is no grave marker, although there are two unmarked graves there, one of which I suppose to be theirs. Finally, I also know the Coyle family was somehow associated with the McCaffrey family of Roo during the 20th century, Patrick, Annie, Margaret, etc., and that Margaret McCaffrey died in 1999; they too are buried in the Carrickatee cemetery.

Does anyone reading this in the Ballybay area remember these people or at least the family names? If so, would you be so kind as to tell me what you know? ANY information would be gratefully received here.
