  • Hi

There are 4 baptism records of John Dooley born 1835 + / - 2 years in Galway on www.rootsireland.ie/

    1833, 1835, 1836 & 1837

I went through the parishes of the records and found they were all in Galway West:  Oranmore R C Kinvara R C & Castlegar R C; the fouth didn't show up and I don't know which was which. The parishes you mentioned weren't in the list.

Some research will be necesary to establish which is the most likely of the three.

I had a look at a parish map of Galway but couldn't see any likely connections between the parishes above - i. e. if one of the birth parishes corresponded to the parishes you mentioned.

I couldn't find a marriage record. The closest match was John Dooley marrying a Bridget (but not Barrett or Barry) & in Galway East!!

    I did the same exercise for Bridget Barrett & there are 4 baptisms for her 1841 + - 1 year: 3 in 1841 & 1 in 1842; however only 2 of the 4 were Galway West: 1 of the 1841's & the 1842

    The 1841 was St Nicholas Combined N & E R C & the 1842 was Rahoon R C.

There are 2 public member trees on ancestry.com (St Pierre and Young & Knudsen) which have John born 1836 and Bridget 1845 resident in Killimor East Galway Parish Clonkeen. It might be worth contacting the owners of the trees.

  • Hi Col, spotted your request for information regarding Dooley family in Galway. I would have known Kate and John better known as Jack, My grand mother was another sister Bridget who moved to London in the late 1800s early 1900s. Spent many holidays in Galway in the 50-60. I now live in Maynooth not far from Dublin. Have one or two photos I could share with you. Regards Brendan Keegan.
