I'm hoping to locate Lavins who live in the Carrick on Shannon area and may have links to my ggrandfather Thaddeus (Timothy) Lavin b 1851, son of Edward Lavin (1818-1892) and Margaret (or Mary) Currigan. Timothy arrived in NW England mid-1870s. His first cousin, Edward Lavin a carpenter of Cortober, was a Connaught Ranger and died in The Great War.

I looked at the 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Roscommon. There was a Edward Lavin listed in Toormore townland in Killukin parish. Possibly this is the older Edward in your note.

  • Hello Roger

Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, the Toormoore Valuation does look convincing; interestingly I believe a house on that plot (with some tantalisong ruins alongside) came up for sale some months ago. Edward Lavin's father was another Thaddeus (Thaddeus marrying a Margaret Keogh/Cain). Many thanks for yoiur interest.

    Regards
