The information that I have lists my great grandfather Thomas Dillon as being from Ballicorne in Co. Kerry. I cannot locate Ballicorne through my research efforts. Is this incorrect info? Any help would be appreciated. He was born in 1865 and immigrated to Detroit around 1885.

Ho Colleen,
His marriage record states that his father was John Dillon, mother Ellen Green.

That's him, he was married in Detroit 1891 to Hannah Casey from Mitchelstown. I have his parents names but no further information about them. Thank you for the attached links, I have been trying to locate Ballicorne with various spellings but I can't find it in any county! I appreciate your help and informative links as I continue my search.

Colleen:
I looked for an 1865 civil birth index record in Co. Kerry for a Thomas Dillon. No 1865 births registered but there was a record for 1864 (which coincidentally ws the first year for civil registration. This birth was recorded in the Listowel registration district. This record may or may not be for your Thomas. The only way to confirm is to write to the General Register Office for a copy of the record which would cost around 4 euros. If you are interested, let me know and I'll explain the process.
I also looked for the townland and the closest I could find was Ballyconry in Ballyconry civil parish. Ballyconry also happens to be in the Listowel registration district.

Roger, you may have tracked him down for me! The 1864 birthdate could certainly be him . I would appreciate your advice on how to request the record. He also had a sister Catherine "Kate" born around 1870, she also came to Detroit around 1891 . She worked as a servant and died in 1905 at her brothers house. It would be great to finally determine where in Kerry they came from so long ago.

Colleen:
Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page hit the link for birth certificate in Enflish. You will get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. Hit cancel and the form should come up. Print the form and complete the information. Also provide the GRO with the year of birth (1864) registration district (Listowel) and the volume and page number (10 and 549). Make sure you only ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros (a cert costs closer to 20 euros and the copy is sufficient for your pruposes). You can also aks the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you. Hopefully, this record is for your Thomas Dillon.

Hi Colleen,
I have Irish Birth & Baptism records on CD 1864 - 1880, both mother's surnames are close to Green, Thomas may not have been able to read or write, the marriage registrar just wrote down what he thought he heard.

Thank you for this information it puts another twist in my quest to figure this all out. It makes a lot of sense as I am fairly certain neither great grandparents could read or write. I went back through the 3 census records I have(1900, 1910, 1920) in that twenty year time frame his age goes from 37 to 43 to 46,so much for accuracy!
I would be inclined to think the first one you indicated would be a possibility since the father's name is correct and Keane and Green are so similar. Since Thomas had a younger sister Catherine born around 1870 is it possible to see if she has the same parents? Her death certificate lists John Dillon and Ellen Green as her parents, this info came from her brother Thomas.
I am so appreciative for this assistance.

Brendan,
Thank you for looking this up for me and providing me with more Dillon information. I am using the names of Patrick and Margaret to see if they may have arrived in Detroit as well. I hope that I will be able to link it all together. You efforts are most appreciated.
