My 3rd great grandmother Margaret Lyons b. 4 JULY 1841 Skribbereen Run, County Cork, Ireland (d. 24 SEPT 1914 in Calif.,USA) (daughter of Timothy LYONS and Catherine LANE) came to the USA in 1853 on a ship: John Cummings of Savannah" From: Liverpool to: New Orleans with her mother Catherine Lane Lyons (b. abt 1819, Skibbereen Run, County Cork,Ire) and her sister Anne b. 1843, and sister Mary b.???
The father Timothy LYONS (b. abt 1815 Skibbereen Run, County Cork, Ire. d. Danville,,IL, USA) left on his own to the USA abt 1847 to the Wisconsin or Illinois area and sent for his family.
Margaret LYONS married: 13 OCT 1861 Danville, Vermilion, IL. USA to: Edward Joseph CONNOLLY b. 1 JUNE 1835 Carrickmacross, County Monaghan,IRE.
d. 10 MAR 1919 El PAso, El Paso,TX USA
To this union were born 11 childen:

You can see what records are available for the parish here:
For Church records in Monaghan you may need to write to the local parish priest for assistance as these are still mostly held locally. However, for Magheross parish (the parish that Carrickmacross in in) records don?t start until 1838:
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
