According to his death record in Maine he was born 22nd June 1870, in census returns he states he was born in Maine. You can apply to the GRO, Roscommon for his birth certificate. The nearest record in Killorglin is a John born 30th June 1869, father Richard, mother Julia Sullivan.

Did I read correctly that John Connor was born in Maine?  I live in Maine, but have not looked for records.  Where was he born? I know CT is expensive. Sue

Hello, I found them in Falmouth, Maine which is a ways from me, and anything I might find, like a birth record, isn't going to go back to Ireland.  I did find an Ancestry family tree with these people from an active member (you?) but I can see no way to look at the tree.  I could contact them, but I don't know if they are you? or if they have any information?  (Can you tell that I am getting NO where with my own family :)  Sue

John C was the son of:

Michael O'Connor and Julia Sullivan, he was their only child, Julia died 1874 in Deering, Michael & Julia emigrated together 1866 through New York. Michael married again to Margaret Calhane 1875 in Deering and had more children.

The good news for you is that I have located Michael & Julia's marriage record in Glin, Co. Limerick 1865, Civil Registration started 1864 in Ireland for Catholics, you can order this record online, it costs 4 euro, it will give both father's names, come back to me when you have the record, I am giving you the details of their marriage record below.

Brendan, you’re so good at the Connors... the other side of my family is Monahan.  Here's a post I placed on another county (I was guessing it would be Monaghan)...  I wasn't having too much luck.  Maybe you'll have better tools??

The census is from 1850 (State Maine / County Aroostook / Town New Limerick Maine).  It has James age at 31... so that would make his date of birth around 1819.  It also lists his wife Mary age of 30 (+ 4 children).  And interesting note... he traveled over to the US with another family (Patrick Fleming) noted in 1845 book (History of Aroostook, Vol 1 Edward Wiggin: Higginson Books Salem MA 1922).
