I am trying to find my paternal grandfathers family.  My grandfather Timothy J. Clifford came to America on the SS Baltic on April 4th, 1913.  He listed Killoglin as his last permanent address on the ship's manifest.  He also listed Killoglin on his marriage license to my grandmother.  I have been able to trace his parents marriage to Cahirsiveen in 1880, Timothy J. Clifford to Mary O'Connor.  I have also found a marriage for William Clifford to Mary Ginna in Killorglin, which I believe is my grandfather's paternal grandparents.  I have used Ellis Island.org, Ancestry.com, and FamilySearch.org websites for my research here in the US.

Two of my sisters and I are visiting Ireland in late May and will be staying in Killarney for first week in June.  We plan to visit Killorglin during our visit.  If you can help us find any family members that would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Mary,

On Timothy's passenger record 1913 he states his father was Timothy, Dooks, Killorglin. We had a census 1901 and 1911, as Timothy emigrated 1913 he must turn up in the census. I have listed the relevant census returns below,

    Court of Glenbeigh

    man over seventy

" 11_IHAT happens when he takes _¥¥ two drinks?" Justice Johnson wanted to know at Killorglin Court on Thursday, when Mr. W. A. Crowley, solr., pleaded, that when John Clifford of Knockaunglass, Glenbeigh, takes a drink one of his legs goes from under him. "When he takes two drinks do the two legs go?" asked the Justice. Clifford was summoned by Garda Concannon for being drunk and incapable on the public road at Glenbeigh on November 18 last. The Guard said he found the defendant lying on the road. Mr. Crowley. said his client was gone seventy years of age and was a decent man and that this was his first time in court. Dismissing the summons under the Probation Act, Justice Johnson said that as defendant had gone without a conviction for the past seventy years, he hoped that he would cet through the next seventy years likewise.

  • Hi Brendan,

Thanks for the information.  I have the 1901 and 1911 Ireland census and have saved them to my family tree.  My grandfather listed his mother as Mary O'Connor on his marriage license to my grandmother.  Do you know if she would have gone by Bridget?

I found a record for a marriage of Timothy J. Clifford to Mary O'Connor registered in Cahirsiveen in 1880 and am waiting for more information from the Family History Library here in the US.  I also researched Griffiths Valuation and found Cliffords in Parrish of Killorglin.  Also listed were Griffins, whom my grandfather listed on his ship manifest as coming to meet one of them in Hartford Connecticut.

Is there anyway to know if more of Timothy's family immigrated to America?

    Regards,

    Mary Clifford Cobb

  • Hi

I'm not sure if you will still be on this site but looking at the family trees attached. I may be a distant relation.

My great grandfather was John Clifford from Knockaunglass who was born in 1881
