My ggf, James Cooke (1859-1922) and his sister, Mary Cooke (c1852) who were from Carrigeenagowna, Tubbercurry, Sligo both married people from Killasser. James Cooke married Margaret Ruddy (2 Jan 1858-22 Feb 1919) at the RC Church, Killasser, Co. Mayo on 14 February 1885. Margaret was a daughter of Martin Ruddy (c1817-13 May 1888) and Catherine Madden (c1833-17 March 1909) of Knox, Kilasser. After their marriage they lived in Carrigeenagowna. Margaret Ruddy Cooke appears to have had siblings called Martin Ruddy, (1 Aug 1874-23 Mar 1957), Hugh Ruddy, and Catherine Ruddy. Margaret Ruddy Cooke’s brother, Martin Ruddy married Mary Dunleavy, a daughter of a farmer couple from Foxford called Thomas Dunleavy and Bridget O’Neill on 24 April 1902 in the RC Church of Killasser, Co. Mayo. The witnesses to the marriage were Maggie Dunleavy and Michael Haran. Martin and Mary Ruddy are recorded in the 1911 Census as living at Knox, Killasser with their 3 children, Michael, (10 Jun 1903), John, (6 May 1906) and Mary Kate, (26 May 1909). Martin was a widower when he died in 1957. The informant to the Registrar of his death was his son, John Ruddy. I wonder if Martin Madden and Mary Dunleavy's descendants still live around Killasser and could share information?
Mary Cooke married Martin Madden, (c1846-4 Aug 1893), a Farrier, and a son of Michael Madden of Kilasser, Co. Mayo on 14 March 1881 in the RC Church, Tourlestrane, Co. Sligo. The witnesses were Michael and Margaret Gallagher. Mary and martin settled in Tulleague, Killasser after marriage. They appear to have had one child called Bridget Madden was born on 31 December 1882. She married Patrick O’Hara of Kilbride, Foxford, Mayo, a son of James O’Hara on 3 February 1901 in the RC Parish of Kilasser. The celebrant was Fr. J. McDonnell PP and the witnesses were James O’Hara and Catherine Casey. They had at least 5 children who were listed in their 1911 census return as Mary Kate O’Hara, (c1902), James Patrick O’Hara, (29 Feb 1904), Martin Thomas O’Hara (22 May 1906), Ellen Agnes O’Hara (9 Aug 1908) and Bridget Anne O’Hara (11 Jan 1911). Again I wonder if Patrick and Bridget O'Hara's descendants still live around Killasser and could share information.=?

Re Cooke, Ruddy, Madden in Killasser. I am a grand daughter of Hugh Ruddy, son of Martin Ruddy and Catherine Madden. I have birth dates for seven of their children. Hugh was born 17th Feb 1870 and died on 20th Jan 1951. I recall meeting three daughters of Margaret Ruddy Cooke (eldest sister of Hugh). Annie was married to Jim Mulvaney and lived in Tubbercurry. Peg was married to Stephen O'Shea and lived in Salthill. I also recall that Nell was married to Bernard O'Shea and Mary Kate to ? Brennan. I recall meeting Jim Brennan in Dublin, son of Mary Kate. All of these were first cousins of my mother. I guess John B may be a son of Jim or Pat Brennan and has an aunt called Ann. I understand that Martin (brother of Hugh) born 01/08/1884, continued to live in the home area; he had three children but they left no descendants. I have further bits and pieces of info which I got from my aunt a few years ago and am happy to communicate further.
