My 3rd great-grandfather's (Patrick DEEGAN) marriage certificate of November, 1820 in St. John's, Newfoundland gave his hometown as Thomastown, Kerry. Can someone help me identify where this was/is? Rick

Hi Rick, I am checking it out but am wondering if there has been a transcription error as the most famous Thomastown is in Co. Kilkenny.

Hi Rick, I'd also be wondering if there has been a transcription error like Martine has said. I have asked locally but to no avail but perhaps Martine will have more luck!

Thanks Martine & Karen. A transcription error was my first thought as well, when the only Thomastown I could find was on the other coast. I have not been able to get the original document from the Newfoundland Archives as yet

I have finally seen an image of the original marriage record on FamilySearch and although the County name does not appear to be spelled out in full, it is most clearly Kenny, not Kerry. So my ancestor came from Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. Now to look for records of Deegans in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny in the early 1800's.

Hi Martine is it ?
Thomastown is in Co. Kilkenny. It is home of my Mother and GrandParents.

Hi Rick,
I'm happy to hear you were able to view the original record, best of luck with the rest of your search!
