Hello!
I assume you have not checked the two main census subsitutes for Ireland during those time periods Griffiths Valuation 1847-1864 and Tithes Applotment 1823-37 online?   GV is free online at Ask About Ireland  and Tithes are free via Ireland National Archives site.  

I found a Michael Mullarkey on townland of Faulagh, Kilcommon Parish, Co. Mayo on Griffiths.   Also found a Michael in Kilbefad parish in earlier Tithes Applotment document.   This could be the same family member you are searching since most RC Irish were renters and it would not be unusual for the family to have moved or been evicted before, during and after the Great Hunger "An Gorta Mor" (aka famine).  

Sadly only a small sample of the Irish Census survive neglect and fire prior to 1901 and 1911 Ireland Census (also available online), so the above substitutes have to suffice.   Searching surviving parish records for family member's BDM's can be accomplished on various paid sites and www.familysearch.org.  

I would be curious to know if you or anyone else comes across my 2nd great granduncle REV. FR. PATRICK J. MALONE involved in your family's BDM's or other records.  Apparently he was a well-known parish priest in Killala Diocese, particularly known for his work in Ballina and later in Glencastle and Bellumulett churches and workhouse where he served after 1850.  He still has a prominent grave in the old Glencastle Cemetery.  He also rented townlands in the area to support himself and likely parishioners.  I believe he was responsible for leaving my 2nd great grandfather JOHN MALONE and family enough funds in his will so they could emigrate from Glengad, Kilcommon for Massachusetts in the USA.
