SCULLY family of Leitrim, County Clare

Afternoon

I just had a quick look on www.rootsireland.ie (a subscription site) and there is 1 baptism record for a child, Frances born to a father first name Patrick, Surname Scully in Co. Clare. The date is 1898. As there is only one it would be a good idea to have a look, it may be relevant, it may not.

Did Patrick Scully emigrate?

Given that I found Patrick listed in the Griffiths Valuations, I would have thought that the 1898 Baptism would be unlikely to be the same Patrick  unless he was a fairly aged father.  I very much doubt it could be the same man.

I have no idea what happened to Patrick or whether he emigrated or not. I am actually doing some far-fetched sleuthing.  I am looking for a Bridget Scully who living on the Glenomera estate at the time of the Griffiths Valuations and have exhausted every possible avenue of research over many years.  I have now moved "sideways" and, working on the theory that she may have been a "local" girl, I thought I might look at any Scully's who appeared in the Griffiths Valuations as living within the same general area. I am investigating the possibility of this Patrick being Bridget's father, or even a brother. Unfortunately, he appears to be as "mysterious" as his namesake.  It must be in the Scully genes!

I've just started trying to track down a Patrick Scully who was born in County Clare. I don't know his birth date, but it seems to have been sometime between 1815 and 1822. His father was John Scully and his mother was Bridgit (according to his death certificate)

He married a woman called Bridget Lyons/Lions in 1854. They both migrated to Victoria, Australia, at an unknown date (some certificates say they married and then emigrated, others say they emigrated and then married in Victoria). In Australia, I know they had their fifth child, Margaret Scully, on 11 April 1862 in Williamstown, Victoria, and that Patrick Scully died about ten years later on 16 February 1873 in Williamstown.

This could well be him.  If my Bridget followed Irish naming traditions, her father would have been named John.  Of course that is just taking a giant leap.but her second son was named John.  If you would like to email me off line, I will share what I know (which is very little) but we may be able to work together.
