 Greetings,

My Grandfather, James Brogan, born Ogonnelloe about 1861, came to Australia

aboard the ship called  GULF OF Venice which departed Plymouth and arrived

in Sydney on the 3/2/1885.

Grandfathers siblings were, Mary born 1854, Catherine, 1858,Bridget 1862,Margaret 1872 Margaret

and Michael, 1868.

Although I have some information, I am really struggling to find out more concerning

my great grandparents, James parents. all I have is, James Brogan born about 1820

married  Margaret Cavanagh born around 1823.

If  anyone has any information, I would love to hear from you, Regards Lorna

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows a James Brogan in Ballybroghan townland in Ogonnelloe civil parish.

I did locate a civil death index record for a James Brogan in the Scarriff registration district which included Ogonnelloe parish. Possibly this is your James. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. If you are interested in getting a copy, let me know and I will forward instructions. I also note that the 1911 census shows a John Brogan and family in Ballybroghan. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Clare/Ogonnelloe/Bally…

Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
