Hi All,
I am looking for information on my Great Great Grandfather, Robert Brown born about April 1843 and emmigrated to Australia about 1867. According to his Death Registration, here in Australia, he was born in Monaghan, Ireland and spent 30 years in Victoria (he died in 1897), and his parents were Robert Brown and Margaret Unknown.
Soon after he arrived here in Victoria, he married in Kyneton to Mary Rooney, also from Ireland (County Down). I have no idea as to whether he came here on his own or with any of his family, and I certainly have no idea about what family he left behind or why he left Ireland.
Hopefully, someone here may be able to help me with some information.
Thanks in advance,
Wendy Tingley

Hello Wendy,
I went to www.rootsireland.ie and found three baptismal records for a
Robert Brown, father Robert Brown, mother Margaret ???. 1839 Co. Offaly
" " " 1844 Co. Cork
" " " 1847 Co. Derry
I don't know which one of these is your ancestor as you don't have a mother's maiden name to verify, but I would open the Co. Down record first and see what you find. You may find names that are familiar to you.
Kind regards,

Hi Anne,
Thank you for the information that you have given me, but I know very little about Ireland and it's Counties, so can you please let me know which of the three records that you have provided me is the Co.Down record that you suggest I look at first?
Once again, thanks so much for your help.
Regards

Hi Wendy,
Sorry about the confusion. I meant that I think you should open the Derry record as this is the nearest county to Down.
