I am looking for any information on John Murphy, born about 1814 in Tipperary, Parish Drumbane according to his immigration papers. Sometime before November 1840 he married Julia Maher who was born around 1818.
In 1840 they immigrated as a couple to Australia aboard the Glenswilly.
He was a blacksmith. His mother was Mary Ryan. He doesn't indicate having a father however his character reference was provided by a "Barnaby Ryan". Perhaps a relative of his mothers?
They arrived in March of 1841.
Thanks
Tracey

There are two Drumbane townlands in Co. Tipperary both in North Tipperary. One is in Moyaliff civil parish and the other is in Templechally civil parish. The RC records for Moyaliff are in the parish of Upperchurch and Drombane so I'm thinking that may be the general area where your Murphy relatives came from. Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie indicates that they have baptismal and marriage records starting in 1829 but I could not locate a marriage of John Maher with a spouse with the surname Maher in that parish.
However, there is an 1833 marriage of a John Murphy to a Judith Maher in the Nenagh RC records. Possibly this may be your couple but John Murphy is a common name.
Roots is a pay site to view the transcription of the church record.
