Hi
I'm looking for more information about my family who were from the Tipperary area of Ireland, in particulary my great, great grandfather William Franklin who was born around 1835 and his brother John Franklin who was born around 1820-1825. They had other siblings, Thomas, Mary and Ellen and their father was also called John. His occupation was a labourer. Some of the children of the family moved to Jersey, Channel Islands in the 1840's, including William and John. I would be very happy if anyone has any information about my family's background and their life before they left Ireland as I know very little about this.
Thank you.

Caroline:
I checked the Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie data base and could not locate a baptism record for William or John. Likely they were baptized in a church that does not have records going back to the 1825-1835 time period. There are also a few parishes in Tipperary where records exist but Roots does not currently maintain the information.
Since the father was a labourer, I was not sure if he was leasing land in the 1820s-1830 when the Tithe listings were maintained. There were 7 different John Franklin entries in the Tithes although a few could be one person leasing land in two different townlands.

By 1850 when the Griffiths survey was taken in Co. Tipperary, no John Franklins were listed.

Hi, I am not sure if this would help you. My great grand father was Hugh Franklin ( b. 1868) his father was William Franklin and mother Mary Carroll ( source: Hugh's death certificate). From family information I understand William Franklin had brothers Robert, Thomas, Hugh and sisters Ellen and Bridgett- who married John O'Donnell. I have William's father as John Franklin who lived in Cahir Tipperary. This information was passed on to my grandfather Hubert Franklin so it is not sourced. Let me know if there is any connection. Thanks Jan Franklin

Hi Jan
Thank you so much for your message, it was lovely of you to take the time to reply to me. I am sure there is a connection somewhere, the names of the siblings are familiar with my family, and William's father was called John and was also from the Cahir area but the Franklins in my family left Ireland and lived in the Channel Islands before moving to England so I am not sure whether this would tie in with your family in any way? I would like to know more about my Tipperary roots and would be grateful for any information at all that you may have about the Franklins and where they originated from as I am sure our families are related somehow.
Thanks again - Caroline

Hi,
Reaching out a bit here!
I have William Franklin (abt. 1843) in Dungarvan from around 1860 - before that I am not too sure but family names, dates and birth records indicate that he may have come from Cahir Tipperary. I believe that his parents are possibly William (1816) & Margerate O'Donnell (children: John 1839, Patrick 1841, William 1843, Thomas 1845) and that William may have re-married to Mary Carroll (children: Catherine 1849, Michael 1850, Ellen 1853, Brigid 1856, Hugh 1860).
William Franklin (1816) parents could be John Franklin & Catherine English ....
I'd love to be able to cross reference this, or at least refute.
I have done a DNA test on Ancestry (username Afewgenes) so maybe we can find a connection that way to Franklin and maybe O'Donnell and English ancestors?
Cheers
Paul
