Looking for info on the marriage and families of Eliza Hollowed and James Kelly in Rathcoole. They had at least 3 children born Kate, John, and unnamed female whose birth matches Mary Kelly in my tree. Mary had three other sisters Elizabeth, Jane and Sarah; all four of them emigrated to NJ in the 1880's. Prior to Mary's emigration, she married Andrew Reynolds. All of these births are circa 1860-1872. There are several mentions of Hollowed families in the Rathcoole area, so any help placing Elizabeth would be appreciated.

Andrea:
Go to www.irishgenealogy.ie which has the Dublin church records. I located the baptismal records for Eliza (1866)' John (1868) and Catherine (1872).
There is also an 1842 Eliza Hollywood baptismal record.
I did not locate the marriage record.

Thank you. I think that Eliza 's name may be Hallowed. I had found a Myles Hallowed in Saggart records, perhaps her brother?

I have found the birth records for several of the Kelly children in the Saggart parish. The records mention their address as Rathcoole Hill or Hill Rathcoole. Could you tell me where that is in Rathcoole. We will be visiting early Sept. and would like to find the location. Also would like to know if the local library has any genealogy records, old photos etc. , school records, work records etc. I also would like to know if there are other graveyards besides the Rathcoole and Saggart parish ones. Thanks

Rathcoole Hill appears to be a local placename as there's no mention of that I could see on the historic OSI maps, but Modern OpenStreet maps and Google maps show Rathcoole Hill Road to the south west of the town which is probably where it was located. The other end of the road is named Stoney Hill Road and heads north east to Rathcoole. Rathcoole is about 115 m above sea level, and there are parts of Rathcoole Hill / Stoney Hill road are over 180 m, with areas to the east of the road over 300 m, so a gentle hill. Most of Rathcoole Hill road is in Redgap townland, which borders several other townlands - i.e. : Glebe, Carrigeen, Crockshane, Rathcoole all in Rathcoole civil parish, and also Coolmine townland in the adjacent civil parish of Saggart.
The nearest Library is the County Library in Tallaght , see link to the FamilyHistory section at this link, in addition to resources held at the Library they also have some online, e.g. South Dublin Images and a map tool with a selection of historic layers dating back to 1760. The library also hold some Graveyard Inscript publication, bear in mind that not everyone could afford a headstone.
I'm not aware of any additional Graveyards in Rathcoole or Saggart - the Dublin Graveyard Directory only shows these along with a much later graveyard in Newcastle, which was part of the same Catholic Parish as Rathcoole & Saggart.
The library also hold directories, but based on the civil births I looked at James was noted as a labourer so probably would not be listed - I'll check in the copies I have. School records, if these survive, would probably end up in the National Archives (Bishop Street, Dublin City), but would double checking in Tallaght in case they have any details.
I believe that Hallowed is probably a local spelling variation for Hollywood, it's mentioned by John Grenham in his surname dictionary as a rare variation of the surname Hollywood . There are several townlands in Co. Dublin and Co. Wicklow named Hollywood, along with a number of houses/estates.
Did James and Elizbeth stay in Co. Dublin - have you located their death records ?

Thank you very much for the info. I do not know if James and Elizabeth stayed there, nor do I have any death records. I do know that children Mary, Sarah, Jane, Elizabeth and Myles emigrated to the Newark, NJ area. I know that there is a grave in Saggart erected in memory of a Patrick Hollowed and wife ( name escapes me) which I think was done by Myles Hollowed who also emigrated to Chicago., and might be Elizabeth’s brother ? I only found the Miyles Kelly as a boarder with Mary, so this is a guess! There are also two other children unaccounted for that I know of John and Kate.

found baptisms for both those children for reference... both in Saggart (Rathcoole/Newcastle) RC Parish
Baptism of John Kelly, 4th October 1868*, parents James Kelly & Eliza Hollowed, residence Rathcoole Hill
born 26th September 1868Baptism of Catherine Kelly 2nd June 1872*, parents James Kelly & Eliza Hollowed, residence Rathcoole
born 25th May 1872* no days or months included in the IrishGenealogy transcripts, but dates are noted in the original registers (as per NLI), residence at the time of Catherine baptism also from NLI record.
If this John and Catherine stayed in Ireland they could be difficult to trace due to the very common names....
p.s. couldn't find marriage in Ireland for Mary and Andrew so widened the search ... looks like they may have married in New Jersey after she emigrated - see transcript on FamilySearch (her mother's surname has been transcibed or recorded as Holland)
