My GG grandfather James Houlehan born 1819 emmigrated to America August 1849. He likely traveled with his wife Bridget (Clancy?) born 1828 and daughter Margaret born 1847. James sailed to New York and then directly onto Augusta, Maine, he was naturalized in 1854 and wrote in his own hand that he was from Carrycain, County Clare. I have found records of possible Houlehans in Kilrush and Feakle, a friend of who grew up in West Clare thought this place would be near Boston and i once found a B&B listing near Lisdonvarna on a road named Carrycain, but could not find the listing a second time. Any ideas on where the place Carrycain may be would be greatly appreciated. Thanks & Good Luck Jim Houlihan.

Hi Jim:
Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. My apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I had a quick look through the Clare Libgrary website for you. Here is what I have found in the Griffith's Valuation:
There is a Patrick Hoolahan living in Cahiracon, parish of Kilfiddane (west Clare) in or about 1855.
There is a Michael Houlihan living in Carrahan, parish of Clooney (east Clare) in or about 1855.
Which of these do you think? If you like, I will do a look-up for you on the Carrahan Houlihan.
Let me know. You can message me at: tulla@irelandxo.com.
Kind regards,
Jane.
