Our great-great grandfather is Thomas Bermingham/Birmingham who married Bridget Nolan, daughter of Francis Nolan and Margaret Ryan. The marriage is said to have occured in Thurles, Tipperary in 1846. The family legend is that Thomas was "a Gentleman by birth" and disgraced the family by marrying Bridget, the daughter of a common peasant. His father (name unknown) gave him money to go to America, which he did sometime between 1849 and 1851 leaving Bridget and 2 children behind until he could get enough money to send for them. They arrived in the USA in 1852. It is said that Thomas also had a brother (name unknown) who stayed in Ireland. Other siblings are unknown and his parents' names are unknown.

I would like to make contact with anyone who may recognize this family legend or otherwise may have further knowlege of this family. All help will be greatly appreciated and I can share further information about Thomas and Bridget after their arrival in the United States.

Thank you.
