Hello, new to this site... and am researching my mother's people. Her father's people are from Co. Kilkenny area:
Thomas DILLON married Ann RYAN about 1823 in Ireland. Their son Martin DILLON (b. 1823 Co. Kilkenny) married Julia Johanna KERIVAN (b. 1836 Tullaroan, Co Kilkenny) in Springfield, Hampden Co., MA, USA. Julia's father was Richard KERIVAN and her mother's name was Johanna. Shortly after their marraige they settled in Erie Co, NY and umung their children was my great grandfather Michael DILLON (b. 1855 d. 1901). Much appreciate any leads, insights... thanks.
Many different spellings of Kerivan. From what I have found so far, they may have spelled it KEERIVAN.

I could not find the marriage record for Thomas and Ann on the Roots Ireland indexes. I did find an 1825 baptismal record for a Martin Dillon parents Thomas and An Ryan in the Freshford RC church. There were no other baptismal records in the Freshford church for children of Thomas and An.
By any chance, did you work for Social Security?

Hello R. McDonnell-- Thanks for the reply, and the lead. I got myself a subscription to RootsIreland. Did manage to find that marriage record-- wife was listed as Anastatia Tyan rather then Ryan. This has really helped narrow down the search for her side, to the Urlingford civil parish and adj areas.
Might you know-- who traditionally were the sponsors or witnesses to a marriage in Ireland in these times? Grandparents, uncles, etc. but was there any pattern?
Thanks! Lvz
ps--no, never worked for Soc sec :)

No patterns in my family. Sometimes family members (usually siblings to father and mother) and sometimes friends of the family.

Hello-- well, happy to say that I've had some good luck in tracing down family in Tullaroan-Freshford area. Have located the Dillons in Ballybeagh, though much is still "in pencil". Further reaseach has yielded other surnames, Cooke and Sankey; and Julia may likely have been baptized Judith. Have sent for a DNA test!
