Greetings,

Can anyone adivse me as to whether there are any cemeteries in Curraghamulkin? I am looking for any Boyd burials there.  We are hoping to visit the area within the next few months.

Thank you,

Tari Parr

Curraghamulkin is a very large townland over 1100 acres. Don't think there is a cemetery in that townland. Go to this site for cemeteries in the area. Did not know the religious denomination.

  • You haven?t said what denomination your family were but judging by the 1901 census they were Church of Ireland. Curraghmulkin is in the parish of Longfield West, and the parish church is Langfield Lower. The current Rector for that parish is Rev Robert Keogh. You could contact him and ask for information on likely burial sites in the parish. (People are not always buried in the cemetery at the church they attend).

The Ulster Historical Foundation has transcripts for 53 graveyards in Co Tyrone. You might want to check their website (pay to view) for Boyd graves.

A lot of the early records for that parish were lost in the 1922 fire in Dublin. PRONI in Belfast have the following records for it:

    Baptisms, 1809-10; marriages, 1845-1934; marriage notices, 1906-74;burials, 1878-1981; vestry minutes, 1810-29 and 1870-1900; minute book, 1880-91

A personal visit is required to view the above records.

The burial records may be helpful as many people were buried without a gravestone and so the burial record might help you locate where they were buried.

  • Thank you, Roger.  I will give that site a look. They were protestant.  Either Methodist Epsicopal or Presbyterian.

  • Thank you so much! They were protestant, so it could be Church of Ireland, Methodist Episcopal or Presbyterian. We have the widowed Sarah (Lytle) Boyd in Griffith's in 1848 Curraghamulkin and her husband, John, was listed there in the Tithe.  We believe John passed about 1847.
