Since I've already had some success here in other parishes, let's give Athenry a whirl.
I am looking for information regarding William MCDONAGH/MCDONOUGH, thought to be from Esker, who married Catharine CONNOLLY/CONNELLY around the early 1800s. They had a son, Patrick Peter MCDONAGH/MCDONOUGH about 1809 who was my 3x great-grandfather. His parents' names were obtained from his marriage record.
I've been unable to locate a passenger list for Patrick but I know he was in Toronto, Ontario on July 3, 1850 when he married Catherine ne? CONRAN/CONDON/CONDRON from Kildare (the widow of George O'KANE who died en route to Canada along with their two children). I have no information suggesting emigration of his parents. Census records variously have Patrick's birth year as 1809, 1810 or 1812, and the surname is spelled a variety of ways.
Any light that could be shed on this family would be deeply appreciated.

Jan:
I think youw will not be able to locate RC church records for your family. The records for Athenry RC parish do not begin until 1858. There are four Esker townlands in Co. Galway. One of the Eskers is in Kiltullagh civil parish which is just to theeast of Athenry. However, RC church records for that parish start in 1830.
The 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Kiltullagh shows two McDonough records but they were not in Esker. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/galway/kiltullagh.htm
Here is the Griffiths for Athenry with a few more McDonoughs/McDonagh.

I did not find William in the Tithes.
The 1821 Irish census is available for Athenry and Kiltullagh parishes. I could not find William and Catharine but maybe you will have more success.

Thank you for taking a look, Roger. I haven't had any luck finding William where I expected him to be either through Griffiths or the tithe applotments and will continue looking.
