Hi Everyone,
I am looking for information on the descendants of Thomas FitzMaurice/ Brighet Gallagher of Mullaghoran. They had 4 children, Maureen, Kevin Anthony, Thomas Francis, and Patrick Joseph. Thomas and Brighet were both teachers. Thomas was a teacher/ principal at Cloncovid national school in Granard and Brighet was a teacher at Kilgogy national school.
Thank you,
Bernie FitzMaurice

Thomas and Brig Fitzmaurice
Thomas Fitzmaurice, a native of Clonafad Roscommon was appointed principal of Cloncovid NS in 1919 where he persued a distinguished career up to the time of his death on 1936. He was the recipient of the Carlisle and Blake award for excellence in teaching on a number of occasions.
His wife Brig, a native of Boninconlon, Co. Mayo was Principal of Kilcogy Girls NS from 1924 until 1948. Both were well known in the Gaelic movement in the midlands and were members of the Coisde of Feis Breifin and Feis Longford.
To have been born and reared in the wonderful Parish make our lives thur far well worth living. Memories keep flooding back daily of those fabulous days, weeks, months and years growing up with the kindest of neighbours, and greathearted parishioners.
We always look forward to returning to Cloncovid and Kilcogy the two locations of our school days.
We always look forward to returning to our school days under the strict and fair guidance of our parents, who taught within the parish, in company with Mrs. Griffin, and Mrs. Timoney.
This is some of what The Fitzmaurice families Dublin (Sr. Teresita Devon) wrote that was submitted to the Archives of Schooldays in Mullahoran.
There is also a photo of Thomas & Brid. If you want me to scan the photo please let me know.

Hi Sheila and Clare,
Thank you for your responses! I have made a little bit of progress. Sister Teresita Devon is their daughter born Maureen FitzMaurice. I believe she is still living. I also had a quick email from a granddaughter, Doreen FitzMaurice, Daughter of their son Patrick but I haven't been able to get back in touch with her.
I would love to get a copy of the photo of Thomas and Bridget. Please send it to my e-mail fitz1959@hotmail.com .
Thank you very much!
Bernie

Hi how the research going?

Hi Sheila-Anne,
It is slowly coming together. I found some new info for some first cousins from Cloonfad More of Thomas FitzMaurice. At least 5 of them immigrated to the USA and settled in NewYork/Connecticut around 1910. I am still trying to make contact again with Doreen FitzMaurice, the grandaughter of Thomas and Bridget.

Hi all, my grandparents were Tomas og Brid Fitzmaurice, we never knew them as they died before we were born. My father Thomas Francis and my 2 uncles Kevin and Paddy lived in Dublin area and were all pharmacists. Their sister Maureen is a nun in Birmingham. Both my father and my uncle Paddy are dead, but both my Auntie Maureen and my Uncle Kevin are still living and in their 90s. You are welcome to contact me at any time - best wishes Aisling Aislingfitzmaurice@gmail.com
