My x3G Grandmother Bridget Lee b. 1826, is becoming a bit of a mystery to me. All the info I have is that she married Donald Mclaren b. 1803, in Ireland about 1840 because their son Robert was born 1842 going on his death cert in NZ. Bridget and Donald had more children all born in Wicklow Co. They were
Robert b.1842
John b.1846
Maryann b. 1849 Cunday??
William Frederick b. 1851 Bray
Donald b. 1853
Neil b. 1854
Margaret b. 1854 ??
Then there were x4 others born in NZ
The family emigrated to Wellington NZ abt 1859
I have found Donald's family in Balquhidder, Perthshire, Scotland, but Bridgets parents and sibblings are a mystery in Ireland. I think I really have come up against a brick wall because of the Govt Fires destroying all the records.
If there was a distant relative I could contact would be fantastic. All the info I have has come from the family Death Certs in New Zealand and a note in Paperspast.
Hopefully someone out there can help. I would be most grateful, thank you.

Judy:
You don't mention whether the family was RC or Church of Ireland. The RC records available on Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie go back to 1810 for Baltinglass. I checked for a Bridget Lee and there is a baptismal record for a bridget Lee in Baltinglass parish in 1822. Don't know if this is your relative. You will need to register and pay to see the actual record. Church of Ireland records on Roots for Baltinglass start in 1848 for marriages and 1877 for baptisms.

Roger,
Thank you for the info. Yes I have seen the rootsireland entry and made a note but not sure if they are the correct family. Bridget died in Wellington, NZ, 1871 aged 45yrs that puts a doubt on her birth date! As time goes on I do understand that dates can be incorrectly written down, so maybe she is my family.
The religion side of things, as far as I know the family are all Church of England or Presbyterian in NZ. That can change as well so I believe. Don't know what they were in Ireland!
As far as the marriage and births are concerned I'll remain open minded on those. Maybe those records are held in the churches and didn't get destroyed. If anybody else has some little titbit I would be very grateful, thank you.
