I am trying to establish my ancestry in Ireland

My mothers name was O'brien and her forebears migrated or were transported to Australia in the early to mid 1800s

They are alleged to have resided in Castleconnell

Any assistance or advice would be very much appreciated

  • Hi Ken

O'Brien is a very common name - there are 4103 O'Brien birth/baptism record in Limerick 1820 + - 20 years on www.rootsireland.ie/; it is not possible to search by parish until a particular record is selected.

However, there are some public member trees on ancestry.com which have a Margaret O'Brien born in Castleconnell 1844 and arrived Brisbane Aug 1863. Parents Kennedy O'Brien and Margaret Cronin.

    http://search.ancestry.com.au/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=pubmembertrees&rank=1&new=1&so=3&MSAV=1&msT=1&gss=ms_r_db&gsfn_x=NP_NN_NIC&gsln=O%27Brien&gsln_x=NP_NN&msbpn__ftp=Castleconnell&gskw=Australia&gskw_x=1&uidh=diq

There is a marriage of Kennedy O'Brien to ?? Cronin in Limerick 1827 (not Castleconnell) on rootsireland.ie

    I couldn't find a Limerick for Kennedy.

  • Hi:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.  Do you have any supporting documentation?  Death certs, etc. as they might provide more clues.  The County Clare Library website has  very good online genealogy resources that can be accessed at  http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/genealog.htm.  It is definitely worth a look to go into that site and look through the number of sections that they have.

If you want to email me further infgormation as I can have a look through Killaloe records for you, please do at:  tulla@irelandxo.com.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
