My maternal 2nd g-grandparents were from County Clare, Ireland. The 1903 obit of William Henry NEALON, states he was born in 1802, Maura, County Clare, Ireland. Curious if it was Maura, ir Moyarta Parrish. Also, that while a young man he was united in marriage to Mary LYNCH, of Kilrush, County Limerick, Ireland. (Is Kilrush in CO Limerick-or in Co Clare-or both?) I understand that the info given is only what the descendants know, which makes it very difficult for research.
I have found extensive US Census records in the US of they and their families living in NY, and moving to Winona, Minnesota, where their children married they lived out their lives, until: Mary-1898 & William-1903. They only record for them in Ireland is their marriage record....YEAH!! 14 Feb 1844, RC Parish records for Kilrush, Diocese of Killaloe, Ireland. They were married at the home of her parents, Michael & Maggie (Purtill) LYNCH, County Clare. Witnesses were John NEILAN (father/brother)?, and Matilda Purtill (mother/sister) ?
I know nothing of their William Henry's family or sinlings in Ireland, before coming to the US in 1848, to Boston, with two young daughters, Susan b-1844, & Briget b-1846. I can not find them on a ship to the USA. In Wm's obit states a sister of William, Mrs. Cunningham, of NY.
I have found "cousins" in the US, descendants of Mary LYNCH's sisters, Anna (m-Timothy BURNS & Catherine (m-John McGuane). Catherine, 95, had a newspaper interviews in Minneapolis, MN., in 1920. She states that she was born in the little town of Kilrush, In County Clare. "It was right on the banks of the Shannon, but it always too deep, we could only wade in it. They watched the big ships going by and one day in the spring of 1850, she finally went out to one of those ship and sailed to the USA."
I am planning a trip to Co Clare, in the near future and would like to have help finding the correct area to possibly locate some NEALON, LYNCH relatives. I have no idea what family William left behind in Ireland. There is some research that leads possibly to the town of Derrynaelecka (?) for William.
Thank you so much for this wonderful genealogy site and the hope that after 10 years I might be able to find someone who know ther area, and possibly some records that might help me.
